Halle Bailey is overcoming a «difficult» period of postpartum depression after the birth of her son Halo. The 24-year-old star of «The Little Mermaid» candidly shared her experience in a recent video on Snapchat, noting that it has «nothing to do» with her son, whom she shares with her boyfriend DDG.
«I have the worst postpartum depression», - Halle said last week in the clip, according to a fan account on Instagram that reposted her post. «And I don’t know if any new moms can relate to this, but it gets to the point where it’s really bad, and it’s hard for me to be away from my child for more than 30 minutes before I start to panic a little».
The «Purple Rain» actress then noted that «feeling normal in my own body» has been «difficult» for her.
«I feel like a completely different person when I look in the mirror», - Halle explained. «I just feel like I’m in a completely new body, and I don’t know who I am… I didn’t realize how serious it really was. Going through it now, it feels like you’re swimming in this ocean where the biggest waves you’ve ever felt, and you’re trying not to drown».
Despite the challenging physical and psychological experience, Halle insisted that «it has nothing to do with my child. It’s all about me and who I am right now».
Later in the clip, the «Angel» artist noted that she wanted to share her story after seeing «hurtful» comments about herself online.
«It honestly baffles me that people feel the need to say such hurtful things», - Halle said. «Usually I’m okay. I see it — and it hurts my feelings — but I don’t say anything. I just swallow my pride and wish that person the best. But today I couldn’t, because it triggers something in me to bring attention to it… You never know what someone else is going through, especially someone who just gave birth».
In January, Halle announced on Instagram that she welcomed her first child with DDG. Her social media post confirmed what trolls had speculated about for months — that she was pregnant. However, Chloe x Halle artist decided to reveal the news on her own terms.
Two months later, Halle delivered a powerful speech at the Black Women in Hollywood Awards ceremony hosted by Essence magazine in March. She took the opportunity to explain why she didn’t want to «expose» her baby to the public eye.
