In Minnesota, 27-year-old Jose Luis Lopez Hiki was found guilty of murdering 22-year-old Kylie Arset, whom he shot in the head after she rejected a relationship with him. This was reported by Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty on October 9.

Lopez Hiki was convicted of first-degree intentional murder, second-degree intentional murder, and stalking with a dangerous weapon. As he was found guilty of first-degree murder, he automatically faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The final hearing in the case is scheduled for October 15.

According to Moriarty, this was a horrific case of «murder due to rejection», - where Lopez Hiki could not accept that Kylie did not want a relationship. She noted that Kylie loved music, art, and her family, and was also restoring a motorcycle while working as a behavior technician for children with special needs.

Lopez Hiki and Arset met online, and he began giving her gifts during their «shopping trips» together. Although they grew closer, their relationship was not romantic or sexual. In the days leading up to the murder, Lopez Hiki asked Arset for a romantic relationship, to which she responded that she was only interested in friendship.

On June 16, 2025, Arset told Lopez that she was not ready for a relationship as she was feeling stressed and trying to sort out her affairs. Lopez Hiki came to her home that same day, and later, when her relatives were unable to reach her, they contacted the police. Upon checking the apartment, the police found her body with a gunshot wound to the head. Data from Lopez’s phone confirmed his presence at the crime scene.
