Madison police publicly identified the suspect shooter in the shooting at the Christian school «Abundant Life»: Natalie Rupnov, who also used the name Samantha. Rupnov’s parents, named Jeff and Melissa, are cooperating with authorities in the investigation of the incident. Rupnov was a teenager and opened fire in a classroom on December 16, 2024.

«I don’t know if [the shooter] was transgender or not», - Barnes told journalists. «I don’t think anything that happened today has any relation to how she or he or they might want to identify themselves. And I would like people to leave their personal biases aside».
Barnes continued: «Whether she, he, they are transgender — that may become known later, but for us right now, today, literally eight hours after the mass shooting at the school in Madison, it doesn’t matter at this moment».
Rupnov, reportedly, was 15 years old. Details about the teenager’s home and social life are unclear. During a press conference, Madison Police Chief Sean Barnes addressed rumors about Rupnov, including that she was allegedly transgender and had a manifesto, which, as Barnes noted, has not been confirmed.
