Kansas City Chiefs player BJ Thompson is on the road to recovery after his scare. According to journalist Tom Pelissero, BJ’s agent, Chris Turnage, confirmed that the 25-year-old footballer was discharged from the hospital four days after suffering a heart attack.

«More good news: Four days after he had a seizure and heart attack during a meeting, #Chiefs defender BJ Thompson was discharged from the hospital tonight, according to his agent Chris Turnage», - Tom wrote on his Twitter on Monday, June 10. «This is a significant step for Thompson, who continues to progress on the road to recovery».

Three days ago, Tom informed fans that BJ «is awake and responsive». Earlier this week, the football team defender experienced at least one seizure during a special teams meeting at the Chiefs' training facility on June 6. Reports say he was in a state of heart attack for about a minute, then was sedated and placed on a ventilator in the hospital.

Tom confirmed through social media that the football team «canceled all training activities today after the backup defender suffered a seizure at the special teams meeting and went into a state of heart attack», - and added, «The team’s medical staff acted quickly, an ambulance was called, and the player is in stable condition».

BJ was drafted by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL draft. He helped the team defeat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 2024.

In addition to BJ, other NFL players have experienced similar scares and injuries on the field. Last year, Buffalo Bills defender Damar Hamlin fell in the middle of a game after colliding with another athlete. Paramedics rushed to him, resuscitated him, and then took him to the nearest hospital. Damar, 26, was given a tracheostomy and was able to breathe on his own a few days after the incident. A week after his fall, Damar was discharged from the hospital.

After recovering, Damar recounted experiencing a commotio cordis episode: a rare condition in which, according to the Cleveland Clinic, «abnormal heart rhythm and heart attack occur immediately after an object (usually something small and hard, like a ball or puck) hits directly over the heart at a very critical moment during the heart rhythm». This condition can be fatal if the patient is not resuscitated within a few minutes
