Elon Musk stated that his estranged daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, whom he shares with his ex-wife Justine Wilson, was «killed» in his eyes by the «woke mind virus» after she sought help in confirming her gender identity after coming out as transgender.
In an interview with psychologist and conservative commentator Dr. Jordan Peterson, the owner of X referred to gender reassignment surgery as «child mutilation and sterilization». He then discussed his 20-year-old daughter, who, according to him, underwent procedures during the pandemic.
«I was almost tricked into signing documents for one of my older sons, Xavier», - said the 53-year-old Musk in an interview with the Daily Wire. «It was really before I understood what was happening, and we had COVID, so there was a lot of confusion».
The CEO of Tesla claimed that he agreed to sign documents giving Vivian permission to undergo procedures to confirm her gender identity because he was told that she «might kill herself» if he did not.
«I have essentially lost my son. They call it 'deadnaming' for a reason. The reason they call it 'deadnaming' is because your son is dead».
In addition to misgendering his child, using male pronouns instead of female ones, he also referred to Vivian by her former name, which is often perceived as a form of open aggression or microaggression. Intentionally refusing to acknowledge a transgender person’s gender identity can harm their mental health, according to child and adolescent psychiatrist Dr. Jason Lambrese.
«This can remind them of that period in their life when they couldn’t take steps to confirm their true identity. Mentioning the former name can bring them back to those more negative times in their life. And often gender dysphoria (distress caused by a mismatch between the gender assigned at birth and true gender identity) can be associated with depression and anxiety».
But Musk does not believe in the harm he may cause, and continued to say that this situation has put him on a mission.
