Influencer Alix Earl came under criticism after an old comment resurfaced in which she used a racist expression.

The 23-year-old woman addressed her followers on Instagram Stories to apologize for her actions in 2014, when, at the age of 13, she used a word with the letter «n» on her ask. fm account, a site where users could answer anonymous questions. Alix explained that at the time she «did not deeply understand the offensive meaning of that word», - but emphasized that «there is no excuse for using that word in any context or at any age».

The resurfaced messages, which were posted on Reddit, showed that Alix responded to four different questions with this expression. One of the questions was: «Who is your one guy friend who will always talk to you and help you when you are down, and will always want to be your friend, even if you don’t want that?» All her answers contained the offensive word.

Alix, who is currently dating Miami Dolphins football player Braxton Berrios, expressed regret for how she handled the situation, saying: «I'm sorry for how I handled this situation, allowing too many people to convince me not to say something for too long. I wasn’t sure how to deal with it, and unfortunately, the advice I was given, though sincere, was wrong. No one but me is to blame for not standing my ground and following my inner voice to speak up immediately».

Alix became known on TikTok in 2020 while studying at the University of Miami, where she became known for her «get ready with me» videos, earning the nickname «Big Al» among her friends. With her platform, which has now reached millions and brought her brand deals that opened doors for her around the world, she acknowledged the seriousness of her past mistake.

In her apology, she stated: «I deeply regret that my words caused pain to many and made people believe that I have biases in my heart. I promise you, that is far from the truth». She added: «My platform has always been focused on positivity, entertainment, and supporting others, and will continue to remain so»
