Today is St. Patrick’s Day! March 17th is a holiday of Irish culture, so we decided to celebrate it by honoring some of our favorite celebrities from Ireland. (Well, besides wearing a lot of green, of course.) Let’s get started, shall we? Irish stars like Niall Horan and Jamie Dornan are especially dreamy, aren’t they?
One of our favorite Irishmen is Niall! The former member of One Direction grew up in Mullingar and has always been proud of his roots. Unfortunately, since becoming famous, Niall has spent less time in Ireland than he would like — and it has been a bit of a different experience. He opened up about how fans surround his family home when he is nearby in a 2016 interview on The Graham Norton Show.
«I come home a couple of times a year. My dad still lives in the same place, so it gets pretty crazy around the house», - he said. The sexy performer of «Slow Hands» then explained how locals started treating him differently when he is in town. «Sometimes, if I’m going home, right? I come home for Christmas, and there’s no taxi, and I start walking home. The police drive past me, pick me up, and take me home», - he said, adding, «I remember when they did it for a different reason».
You wouldn’t guess from his iconic role as Christian Grey in «Fifty Shades of Grey», - but Jamie is actually from Northern Ireland. The actor was able to showcase his dreamy accent playing a serial killer in the drama series «The Fall». He graciously taught his fans Irish slang in a 2018 video for Vanity Fair. «Craic» means «how are you» and much, much more. As for «Kex», - that’s underwear. You learn something new every day.
Four-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan is incredibly proud of her Irish heritage. Saoirse joked about her thick accent on Saturday Night Live and admired playing an Irish immigrant in «Brooklyn». The film, for which she was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress, caused her anxiety.
«I was terrified», - she said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times in 2015. «Maybe because I’ve been doing this since I was 10, and everyone at home was really amazing and supportive. And the idea of them seeing me representing us on screen was scary. And so I felt a huge responsibility»
