A group of Democrats and one independent senator have reached a key preliminary agreement with Republicans on a possible end to the historic government shutdown. As lawmakers face increasing pressure from airlines, Americans hope that the agreement will end the pause and finally reopen the government.
While many figures from the left camp are speaking out against their colleagues who temporarily supported Republicans, many are curious about who these eight politicians are.
Below are the Democrats who have reached an agreement with Republicans on a possible end to the government shutdown.
No, the government is still closed as of November 10, 2025. The shutdown began on October 1, making it the longest in American history.
Although several Democrats temporarily joined Republicans, there is still no definite end in sight for the shutdown. If a new proposal is approved in the Senate, it will be passed to the House for consideration.
It turns out that seven Democrats actually joined Republicans on November 9, along with one independent senator. The eight politicians are John Fetterman from Pennsylvania, Catherine Cortez Masto from Nevada, Jacky Rosen from Nevada, Dick Durbin from Illinois, Jeanne Shaheen from New Hampshire, Maggie Hassan from New Hampshire, Tim Kaine from Virginia, and Angus King from Maine, who is the independent in this group.
Kaine addressed reporters from the Capitol Hill that evening when the Senate adjourned. He explained how he and several of his colleagues reached an agreement with Republicans.
«I have long said that in order to get my vote, we need to be on a path to fixing the Republican healthcare mess and protecting federal workers», - Kaine said, according to The Hill. «This bill will protect federal workers from unjustified firings, reinstate those who were unlawfully fired during the shutdown, and provide back pay to federal workers as required by the law I passed in 2019. This is a critical step that will help federal employees and all Americans who rely on government services».
According to many sources, members of the House have been told that a vote on government funding is expected this week. While the Senate approves the new agreement, the House may vote on funding this week
