Travis Kelce admitted that his teammate Harrison Butker’s position may change due to the NFL’s new rules on kicking the ball. The 34-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end explained that the team has a different perspective on how 28-year-old Harrison should be used given the new rules for kicking the ball during the latest episode of his podcast «New Heights» on Wednesday, June 5.

The NFL announced new rules for kicking the ball in March. The new rule adjusts the alignment for the team kicking the ball and allows teammates to run when the ball lands in the end zone or end zone area. It also affects the number of players in the receiving zone. Due to the new rules and formations, kickers may be involved in tackles, something Travis said his team does not want Butker to be in. The full text of the new rules can be read on the NFL website.

Travis’s brother and co-host Jason Kelce gave a more direct explanation of how this will affect the game for fans. «All of this is aimed at making kicking the ball more significant, and I’m all for it», - he said, referring to Us Weekly. «Football is better when special teams matter. The reality is that the old kick wasn’t a real kick. It was a ceremonial kick through the end zone, and no one ever returned anything».

Speaking about his teammate’s change in position, Travis acknowledged that he still believes Butker is a talented player. «Obviously, it’s not because Harrison can’t handle it», - he said. «He's one of the best players in the league at this. He has one of the best legs in the game. Usually, he kicks the ball into the stands, through the end zone, when he kicks the ball».

Travis’s explanation of Harrison’s changing role in the team came almost a month after the kicker’s controversial comments about women’s work and Pride Month at the graduation ceremony at Benedictine College. Shortly before this performance, Travis shared his thoughts on the controversial performance. «I've known him for seven or eight years, and I appreciate him as a teammate», - Travis said on «New Heights». «I can’t say I agree with most of his statements, or any of them, except that he loves his family or his children. I don’t think I should judge him based on his views, especially his religious views on life»
