Over the past few decades, several celebrities have died in plane crashes and other aviation incidents. However, there have also been several survivors. Several stars have walked away alive after encountering problems in the air and/or experiencing rough emergency landings.

Below, Hollywood Life has compiled some of the most famous faces who have been involved in terrifying aviation incidents.

Harrison Ford was piloting a World War II-era plane in 2015, which crashed on a golf course in Los Angeles. He was hospitalized with multiple fractures but recovered. However, the incident stayed with Harrison for a long time, as he mentioned in an interview with The Wall Street Journal in 2025. Recalling a rehearsal on the set of a 1923 film, the veteran actor compared his real-life experience to that of his character from the show.

«I watched the rehearsal with the stunt double, who entered the kitchen, and Helen [Mirren] entered, sweeping everything off the table, taking control», - Harrison recalled. «Even when I talk about it now, it’s emotionally linked to the plane crash I survived and what my wife went through».

Bono was not involved in a plane crash — but it was very close. The U2 vocalist was flying over Germany on a Learjet in 2014 when the door fell off during the flight. The plane landed safely despite the scary moment in the air.

Travis Barker was on a Learjet 60 business jet in 2008 with several other people, including DJ AM, when it crashed during takeoff in South Carolina. The plane’s tire burst, and the pilot informed air traffic control that sparks were coming from the plane. After stopping the takeoff, the flames intensified, and only Travis and AM were able to escape from the plane with second and third-degree burns on their bodies.

Travis was in the hospital for almost three months after the incident. He suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for many years due to a fear of flying, and he did not board a plane again until 2021.

Sandra Bullock was on a business jet that crashed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 2000. The plane veered off the runway. Miraculously, the actress and other passengers and crew on board survived.

In Wilmer Valderrama’s memoir «American Story: All Invited», - the actor from the series «That '70s Show» described a terrifying aviation incident with his co-stars Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson. It is unclear when the incident occurred, but Wilmer described the harrowing ordeal in his book.

«I'm getting dizzy», - he wrote in one excerpt from the memoirs. «Breathing becomes increasingly difficult. Oxygen masks fall from the ceiling, and I wonder if they fell because of turbulence or for another reason».

Fortunately, according to Wilmer, everyone on board remained unharmed after landing
