J.D. Vance may be considering succeeding Donald Trump. The 41-year-old vice president has been asked multiple times if he plans to run for president in 2028, and recently he shared an update.

Trump has not directly stated whether he wants to see Vance as his successor, but confirmed that his vice president is the «most likely» candidate for it. In August 2025, a journalist asked Trump if he foresaw Vance as the «successor to MAGA», - to which the Republican president replied: «Obviously, it’s still too early to talk about this. But, of course, he’s doing well, and probably at this point he would be preferable», - according to CBS News.
Vance has not announced an official presidential campaign for 2028. However, he told Fox News host Sean Hannity in November 2025 that he plans to «sit down and talk with the president» and «discuss with him» this possibility at some point, although currently he and the Republican party are focused on midterm elections.
«I would say that I have thought about what it might look like after the midterm elections, of course, but also, when I think about it, I try to push it out of my mind and remind myself that Americans elected me to do the job right now. And my task is to do that», - Vance emphasized to Hannity.
The vice president added that getting distracted by «what comes next» can make a person «worse at their job», - and stressed that he wants his party to win the midterm elections, «because if the Democrats come to power, they will try to ruin many great things that the President of the United States has done in the last 10 months».
«So, we will win the midterm elections, we will do everything possible to win the midterm elections», - Vance continued, adding: «After that, I will sit down and talk with the President of the United States and discuss this. If we do a good job, politics will take care of itself. If we do a terrible job, politics will take care of itself in another direction, so I will just focus on the work I have».
