Jelly Roll expressed gratitude to marijuana, as it helped him stay away from hard drugs in an interview published on Friday, May 24th. «I think a world without weed is Jelly Roll drinking codeine, taking Xanax and sniffing cocaine again, but a world with weed, I’ll be okay», - said the 39-year-old singer to Taste of Country magazine.

The country star has been open about his past struggles with drug addiction and dependency, mentioning that marijuana helped him become «sober».

«I constantly get in trouble because of it, but my attitude towards marijuana will always be the same: I believe marijuana helped me in many ways, with my anxieties… It’s a controversial topic, but honestly, marijuana helped me stay sober», - he expressed.

After learning from his mistakes at 23 years old, when he was arrested for drug trafficking, he now advocates for helping those struggling with hard drugs. He testified before the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs in January 2024 to take action against the spread and supply of fentanyl in the United States. «At every concert I give, I see the devastating impact of fentanyl… I see fans struggling with this tragedy through music… seeking solace in music and hoping their experience won’t befall others… I’m not here to defend the use of illegal drugs, and I also understand the paradox of my past as a drug dealer standing before this committee… But, equally, I think it makes me ideal to discuss this. I was part of the problem. I’m here now, standing as a person who wants to be part of the solution», - he said.

In addition to national actions, Jelly Roll told People magazine that he uses his platform for good. «I've always said that if I ever found myself in such a situation, I would do everything I could to give back… The fact that just my presence in some places can make people happy, it’s such a gift, and I feel that if God gave me this gift, I should show up», - he said.

Despite weed being his ally in overcoming hard drugs, he also expressed gratitude to his wife, Bunnie XO — with whom he has been married for eight years — for guiding him on a positive path and raising their children Bailey and Noah. «This is about a woman who came and took a child who was soon to be born, and a child we were soon to gain full custody of… I would never have custody of my daughter without her. I would not have stability or money», - he told Billboard magazine.

His wife even took to social media to defend Jelly when he focused on his physical health. «Don't hurt people, because you never know where they are mentally… There are many people who are not as strong as I am on the internet, and they should not be hurt», - she noted, after revealing that her husband stopped using social media because of hateful comments about his appearance, which caused him «pain»
