If you are a fan of Jelly Roll and do not live in the United States, it may be difficult for you to see him perform live, as he has not gone on international tours. Rapper turned country star, 39-year-old Jason Bradley DeFord, opened up about his difficulties booking shows outside of the United States during a conversation with 62-year-old Jon Bon Jovi for Interview magazine on June 5.
During the conversation, the «Livin' on a Prayer» rocker told Jelly Roll that he had heard rave reviews of his performance at Stagecoach and asked if he had been able to perform in other countries besides America. The rapper replied that he is currently trying to work it out. «I'm so excited. We are figuring out the last pieces of some legal puzzles so I can go abroad», - he said.
Jon seemed to be surprised that Jelly Roll was facing such issues, but the singer of «Need a Favor» explained why it was a problem. «Funny, America finally agreed to let me out and give me a passport, but some countries won’t let me in because of my crimes. We are working on it. I think it will work in my favor», - he said.
Jelly has spoken about his legal troubles in the past. He admitted that he was arrested several times in his youth, mostly on drug charges. He was also accused of robbery with violence, but he openly talked about how he has changed his life. «I never want to forget that it was a disgusting crime», - he once told Billboard magazine in an interview. «It's an adult looking back at a 16-year-old boy who made the worst decision of his life, and people could have been hurt, and thankfully, by the grace of God, no one was hurt».
Jon admitted that he considers the laws outdated, but he rooted for the singer. «I hope so. These are really archaic rules. Artists should be able to go out and do their job», - he said.
For fans in the United States, Jelly will embark on his «Beautifully Broken» tour in North America later in August, and it will continue into the fall
