After playing the Carpenter sisters in the films «Scream» and «Scream VI», the actresses separately left the filming of «Scream 7» before production began. The departure of the «Wednesday» series star caused confusion, as it happened shortly after Melissa’s dismissal. Initially, it was reported that Jenna left «Scream 7» due to scheduling conflicts with other projects, such as «Wednesday». However, the actress revealed the truth in an interview in April 2025 for The Cut.
«It had nothing to do with pay or schedule», - Jenna told the publication. «Things were happening with Melissa, and everything was falling apart… If 'Scream VII' wasn’t going to be made with those directors and those people I fell in love with, it didn’t feel like the right move for me in my career at that time».
Not only did director Christopher Landon leave the film, but directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin also left after Jenna’s departure.
Melissa was fired from Spyglass Media due to her public statements about the conflict between Israel and Hamas. One of her Instagram Stories in 2023 contained a message stating: «Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp. They’re herding everyone together, nowhere to go, no electricity, no water… People have learned nothing from our history. And just like in our history, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE AND ETHNIC CLEANSING».
Spyglass later released a statement in Variety after Melissa’s dismissal from «Scream 7». It stated: «Spyglass' position is clear and unequivocal: we have zero tolerance for antisemitism or incitement to hatred in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or anything that clearly crosses the line into hate».
Only two of the «Core Four» from the films «Scream» of 2022 and «Scream VI» of 2023 appeared in «Scream 7»: Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin and Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin.
The rest of the cast of «Scream 7» includes the original final girl, Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, as well as Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, David Arquette as Dewey Riley, and Matthew Lillard as Stu Macher.
Among other stars in the film: Scott Foley, who played Roman in «Scream 3», and Roger L. Jackson as the voice of Ghostface.
