A Colorado woman was arrested after reportedly dismembering her husband and storing his remains in several containers in her home, where she continued to live for several months.
The Colorado Springs Police Department reported on September 20 that Sheldon «Shelly» Wilson was charged with second-degree murder, tampering with a deceased human body, and tampering with physical evidence. The investigation into Wilson, 62, began when she went to the police station on September 19 with her daughter to report her partner’s death. She claimed that the man died in March while she was at work, according to the arrest affidavit obtained by KRDO.
According to Wilson, «you will soon learn a lot of bad things», - adding that «there are no words for what you are about to find out». During the investigation, police visited her home, where they discovered black storage containers. It was also noted that there was a smell of decomposition in the house. Wilson reportedly told police that the man’s remains were in one of the containers. One container contained decomposing human tissue, while another held a black garbage bag tightly wrapped in tape.
Police also found a small mattress in the backyard covered in dark stains, which law enforcement believed could be blood and biological materials. The charging document stated that since December 2024, there had been 18 calls made to this residence regarding alleged violence by Wilson against her partner. At the same time, on December 17, 2025, a family member reported that Wilson had called them 40 times expressing a desire to kill her partner.
During her interactions with law enforcement, Wilson recalled that she had been drinking and woke up to find the victim covered in blood and injuries. She also stated that she could not remember exactly how she had beaten him, although she admitted to having «done bad things» to the man at least 10 times while under the influence of alcohol. On March 17, Wilson claimed she woke up to find the victim unresponsive. She covered him with a blanket and went to work, and when she returned, she realized he was dead.
The man’s body remained in the living room for about a week, after which Wilson dismembered him so her daughter would not find out what had happened. Investigators reported that Wilson spread the remains throughout the house in various containers to conceal the evidence. In the unsealed arrest affidavit, Wilson indicated that her husband had suffered several strokes and had been placed in hospice care, but at some point, she claimed he had improved and was discharged, although he was never strong enough to resist.
One of Wilson’s daughters contacted the police on September 17 to request a welfare check, as she had not heard from him for a long time. It was then that the accused realized she could no longer hide the murder. She later confessed that the police visit was the catalyst for her confession when she realized she could not safely move or dispose of the body.
Wilson is currently being held in the El Paso County jail without bail. It is unclear whether she has entered a plea or hired an attorney since her arrest. The Colorado Springs Police Department did not provide additional updates on the case when contacted by Us Weekly.
