In Kentucky, a woman was arrested after crashing her car into a tree while driving with three children. According to police, Jamel Pugh admitted to consuming alcohol before the incident.
The 39-year-old Pugh was charged with reckless driving, failure to use child restraint devices, endangering the welfare of minors, and driving with a suspended license. She was arrested on September 19 and taken to the Louisville County Jail.
On the day of the accident, Pugh was driving with three children in Louisville. She reportedly drove over a speed bump, which led to the collision with the tree. Arriving officers found the car severely damaged in the front, and the children in the vehicle were crying and complaining of pain. One child sustained injuries, including blood on their face and clothing, while the other two were also experiencing significant pain.
Pugh claimed she was driving within the speed limit; however, the investigation revealed that the speed bump was located about 100−150 yards from the crash site, and the damage to the vehicle indicated speeding. Additionally, it was found that two of the three children were not secured in child seats.
During the arrest, officers noticed the smell of alcohol on Pugh. When asked if she had consumed alcohol before the crash, she replied that if she goes out with family, she certainly drinks. Pugh also stated that she had one vodka cocktail before getting behind the wheel.
Pugh’s next court hearing is scheduled for September 29. It is currently unclear whether she has entered a plea or hired an attorney following her arrest.
