«It's the final season. It’s still limited, but I think of it as a whole — there’s just a division in the middle, but it’s all one whole», - Brandon said at the time, adding, «It will end».
During a separate interview with Forbes in the same year, Brandon, who plays Spencer Dutton, recalled reading the show’s finale and admitted that he «somehow knew» how the series would end «from day one».
«It's so hard not to give spoilers», - teased the actor. «I'll have a lot of time with Helen and Harrison, and it will be special. I mean, the series finale is probably one of the best things I’ve read in my life. I somehow knew how it would end from day one — Taylor [Sheridan] told me. I knew Spencer’s full path from day one, so in shooting the first part, [you] remember where he needs to go. I’m really excited».
However, fans are still hoping for a third season. Paramount+ has not yet announced any future plans for 1923.
1923 killed off several characters in the second season — all before the finale. Five of these victims were members of the main cast. Pete Plenty Clouds was one of the first to go after a duel with Marshal Kent. Played by actor Jeremy Haun, Pete was originally portrayed by the late actor Cole Briggs Plenty, who died in real life.
Jack Dutton was the next to die. Played by Darren Mann, Jack wanted to head to the Livingston train station with Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford) to ensure Spencer’s safe arrival. Disobeying Jacob’s orders to leave the ranch, Jack sets off and is shot by two Whitfield men posing as deputies. Now Elizabeth (Michelle Randolph) is a widow and must raise their future child alone.
