Joy Reid’s MSNBC show The ReidOut has been canceled, and new anchors
Joy Reid, known for her show on MSNBC, The ReidOut, is stepping down from the network program, several sources reported in February 2025. Internal sources told Variety and Deadline that the hosts of The Weekend Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele are expected to take over the 7:00 pm time slot, which will impact Joy. So why was Joy’s show canceled on the NBCUniversal news network?

This news comes amid a mass exodus of journalists and news anchors from major cable networks, including Hoda Kotb from NBC, Norah O’Donnell from CBS, Chris Wallace from CNN, Neil Cavuto from Fox News, and many others. Furthermore, MSNBC President Rashida Jones left her position in January 2025, stating in a statement that she «made this decision over the holidays, reflecting on our wonderful journey and the numerous successes we have achieved together as a team».

Below, we will delve into the cancellation of The ReidOut.

Joy is a progressive political commentator, television host, and author. Prior to the launch of The ReidOut in 2020, she hosted The Reid Report and AM Joy. Additionally, hailing from New York, she has published several books, including The Man Who Sold America: Trump and the Unraveling of the American Story.

As a longtime critic of Donald Trump, Joy is known for her critical remarks towards conservatives who support him. After his victory in the 2024 election, she criticized «right-wingers» during Thanksgiving, saying, «Make your own dinner, MAGA», - according to The New York Post.

«But if you expect that 73 million people who voted for a prosecutor, not a criminal, especially 92 percent of Black women who voted for Kamala, will give you a cookie for your vote, a trophy, a hug, five, you might be asking for too much», - she said at the time. «If we want to eat with you, we will. But if we want a little peace on the holidays and don’t want to endure your trolling while we eat our Tofurky, accept it».

It is unclear why The ReidOut is being canceled by MSNBC. At the time of publication, the network has not provided a public statement on the matter.

The cancellation comes a month after the departure of former network president Rashida, and new president Rebecca Cutler has taken her place.

Over time, Joy has amassed an impressive fortune of $ 4 million thanks to her successful television hosting, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

In late 2024, several sources reported that Joy faced a pay cut at MSNBC. The Washington Free Beacon reported that Joy was earning $ 3 million a year
