Justin Timberlake has been stripped of his driving privileges in New York after his latest hearing related to his arrest for driving under the influence on June 18.
The «Cry Me a River» singer, 43-year-old Timberlake, appeared virtually from Antwerp, Belgium, on Friday, August 2, declaring his innocence to the revised charge of driving under the influence.
Sag Harbor Judge Carl Irace officially suspended Timberlake’s driving privileges in New York, although the duration of the suspension is unclear. After the hearing, Timberlake’s lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., told reporters that the suspension is «standard in every case of driving under the influence».
During the process, Burke also withdrew his offer made last week to dismiss the case. Irace also expressed his displeasure with Burke’s statement to the press after the July 26 hearing, urging him to «be more careful when making comments» and reprimanding Burke for his words «seem like an attempt to poison the case before it even begins».
The next court hearing is a lawyers' conference scheduled for Friday, August 9, which Timberlake is not required to attend.
However, Irace threatened to impose a gag order or request Timberlake to appear in person, forcing him to return from Europe and suspend his «Forget Tomorrow World Tour» if comments continue from the lawyer.
In his comments, made without Timberlake present, Burke categorically stated that his client «was not under the influence» when Sag Harbor police stopped him in June, and he described the arresting officer as «young» and «partially occupied».
Burke decided not to make the same claims in court that time — a difference noted by Irace today — but instead attacked the case on procedural grounds because the arresting officer’s supervisor did not sign the initial criminal complaint.
«We argue that Justin was not under the influence at the time of the stop», - Burke said.
Officers say «his eyes were red and glassy, emitting a strong smell of alcohol».
After being stopped, Timberlake, reportedly, told the police: … (the rest of the text is cut off)
