January 2025 was a troubling month in the aviation industry. There were several plane crashes, collisions, and other incidents involving both commercial and non-commercial aircraft. Just a few days after the crash of a medical plane in Northeast Philadelphia and the collision of an American Airlines plane with a Black Hawk helicopter near Washington, DC, a United Airlines plane caught fire in Houston, Texas. Passengers on board were concerned and immediately shared their experiences on social media. So, what happened to the plane in Houston?

Below you will find everything we know about United Airlines flight in Houston.

On Sunday, February 2, 2025, passengers on board United Airlines flight #1382 saw smoke coming from the plane before takeoff. Many on board shared videos of the incident on social media.

A passenger named Kelsey Davis detailed the «horrible experience» in a TikTok video, saying: «The engine failed right as our wheels were leaving the ground. The plane lost control on the runway for a few seconds, but thankfully our pilot was able to regain control. There was only one exit slide for the entire plane evacuation».

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the fire was caused by a «reported engine issue». The flight was traveling from George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston to LaGuardia Airport in New York. The FAA added that the crew «safely aborted takeoff» in Texas, and passengers safely «exited the plane on the runway and were bussed to a nearby terminal».

The engine issue is currently under investigation, the FAA added.

According to multiple sources, there were no reported injuries among the passengers or crew of the flight.

The exact number of plane crashes was not reported, but according to the «Aviation Incident and Accident Reports» from the FAA, there have been at least 15 plane crashes and collisions in the US at the moment, including commercial and smaller aircraft. Some of these incidents were fatal crashes, while others collided with various objects on the ground and in the air
