A fire in Pacific Palisades, which broke out in the Los Angeles County on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, quickly spread to surrounding areas. Southern California is in a state of emergency as firefighters and officials struggle to contain the fire, which has already burned thousands of acres and destroyed many homes. Residents of Pacific Palisades — including celebrities — have lost their homes and abandoned their cars to escape the dangerous smoke and flames. As the country watches the developing situation, many wonder how the fire started.
Shortly after the fire broke out, California Governor Gavin Newsom addressed the public at a press conference. He said, «This is a very dangerous windstorm that is creating extreme fire risk — and we have not yet eliminated the threat. We are already seeing the devastating consequences of this fire in Pacific Palisades, which quickly spread in a matter of minutes. Our deepest thanks go to our experienced firefighters and first responders who quickly fought this dangerous fire. If you are in Southern California, please pay attention to weather reports and follow any instructions from emergency services».

Officials have indicated that extremely strong winds worsened the fire, if not directly caused it. Wind gusts intensified on the night of January 7, and several sources reported that gusts could reach up to 100 miles per hour in certain parts of Los Angeles County.
At the time of publication, according to multiple sources, three wildfires have already occurred in Los Angeles. The largest fires are the Palisades fire and the Eaton fire, which affected Pasadena and Altadena. The third fire is called the Hurst fire, which broke out in Sylmar.
Residents of Altadena and other affected cities tried to fend off the flames as they approached their property.
The main fire in Pacific Palisades has not yet been contained. The other two fires that started on Tuesday, January 7, were also barely contained
