Caleb Flynn, a contestant on «American Idol», - has been found guilty of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn. On Monday, the jury delivered a verdict, convicting him of aggravated murder, three counts of murder, two counts of felony assault, and three counts of evidence tampering.
The jury deliberated for about two and a half hours before presenting the verdict to the judge. After the decision was announced, Flynn was seen crying in the courtroom. Sentencing is scheduled for October 5. If convicted, Flynn faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Flynn’s attorney, Patrick Mulligan, told reporters that they are disappointed with the decision, noting that «there is a lack of evidence regarding premeditation». During the trial, attention was focused on Flynn’s relationship with Allegra Botner, with text messages between them read in court. In one message from August 22, 2025, Flynn wrote to Botner: «I haven’t slept until 4 AM, crying and thinking about how to kill her and not go to jail».
Flynn and Botner had been in a secret relationship since 2024 until the beginning of this year. In January, Botner informed Flynn of her desire to end their relationship after he refused to leave his wife. In February, Ashley was killed while sleeping in their home in Tipp City, Ohio.
Police obtained bodycam footage showing Flynn in a state of distress, claiming he found his wife dead. He also called his mother, telling her: «Ashley is dead! Mommy, she’s gone!» At the time of the murder, their two young daughters were in the house.
Flynn called 911, claiming that someone had broken into their home and shot his wife. He told the dispatcher that his wife had two gunshot wounds to the head and that there was «blood everywhere». Three days later, he was arrested and was captured on shocking police footage. During the 911 call, Flynn claimed that the garage door was open; however, police noted that a large refrigerator was blocking the entrance. There were suggestions that Flynn may have staged the crime scene.
Caleb Flynn gained notoriety after appearing on «American Idol» in 2013, where he spoke about his love for God and his wife.
