Quarterback of the Chicago Bears, Caleb Williams, suffered an injury during the game against the Minnesota Vikings on September 20. He was heard screaming in pain after sustaining a serious non-contact injury and needed assistance to leave the field.

Williams, 24, fell to the ground in the fourth quarter while attempting to run as his team was in the red zone. After coaches helped him to the sideline, he was placed on a stretcher and taken into the tunnel. Despite the injury, he managed to raise his hand and give a thumbs-up to the crowd as he was being taken to the locker room.

Later, Fox reported that Williams had injured his right hamstring, but no additional information regarding the severity of the injury or his status was provided. Bears' backup quarterback Tyson Bagent took the field in place of Williams but was unable to lead the team to victory, and the game ended with a score of 9−3 in favor of the Vikings.

Former NFL doctor David Chao, who now assesses injuries in real-time on social media, described Williams' injury as «significant». He noted that «this is the danger of wet weather», - referring to the rainy conditions in Chicago during the game, and added that «wet weather leads to more muscle injuries». Chao suggested that Williams would likely miss some time.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, Williams and the Bears had come off a confident victory, 59−37, over the Carolina Panthers in Week 1, marking the team’s highest score in a season opener. The Bears will return to the field on September 28 when they host the Philadelphia Eagles.
