After Kamala Harris called on Donald Trump to set a debate date, the request was fulfilled. Both candidates will take the stage on ABC News to discuss their values and policies if they manage to become presidents. According to a statement published by the network and reported by CNN, «Vice President Harris and former President Trump have confirmed that they will participate in debates on ABC on September 10».
This announcement followed shortly after the 59-year-old Democratic candidate challenged the 78-year-old politician at her campaign rally at a university in Georgia, where she said, «Well, Donald, I hope you reconsider meeting me on the debate stage, because as they say, 'If you have something to say, say it to my face'».
Considering Kamala Harris’s extensive experience in politics, from being elected Attorney General of California to working in the prosecutor’s office, she understands the opponent she will face in the 2024 presidential elections. At one of her events, she stated, «In these roles, I have faced criminals of all kinds: predators who raped women, scammers who deceived consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own benefit. So hear me when I say, I know the type of Donald Trump».
Trump seems to have accepted her challenge and mentioned at a conference in Florida, «I believe that holding debates is very important», - and continued that they agreed on debates on September 4 on FOX, September 10 on ABC, and September 25 on NBC. «The other side must agree to the terms. They can agree or not agree. I don’t know if they will agree. (Harris) did not give an interview… I look forward to the debates because I believe we need to clarify the situation», - he added.
When his confirmation came, Kamala expressed that she is glad he agreed to the discussion. «I am glad that he finally agreed to the debates on September 10. I look forward to it and hope he shows up», - she told reporters.
Both will be running in the elections on November 5, running alongside their partners J.D. Vance (Trump) and Tim Walz (Harris)
