In just one week of her pre-election campaign, Kamala Harris' team may have already identified a candidate for vice president.
The 59-year-old Harris is expected to choose a governor, with many pointing to Senator Mark Kelly as a potential vice presidential candidate. The current vice president’s campaign is seeking donors to raise enough funds for the possible election of a governor.
According to Politico, Kamala plans to announce her vice presidential candidate on Tuesday, August 6, and they will together appear at their first rally in Philadelphia. Potential governors on the list include Josh Shapiro from Pennsylvania, Andy Beshear from Kentucky, and Tim Walz from Minnesota.
The 48th governor of Pennsylvania told the publication: «Choosing a vice president is a very personal decision for her right now: who she wants to run with, who she wants to govern with, and who will be by her side when she has to make the toughest decisions for the American people. I am confident that she will make this decision at her discretion when she is ready».
Meanwhile, she will be in the process of interviewing, looking for a potential vice president who can work well with her.
This news comes shortly after the Democratic candidate spoke out against Trump, saying that if he «has something to say, let him say it» to her face. She plans to use her previous experience as California’s attorney general to defeat opponent and former president Donald Trump and his vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance in the upcoming elections.
She addressed a group of her supporters: «I was elected as California’s attorney general, and before that I was a prosecutor. In these roles, I fought criminals of all kinds: predators, rapists, scammers, fraudsters, rule-breakers for their own benefit. So listen to me when I say I know the type of Donald Trump. And in this campaign, I will proudly put my reputation against his».
