Kamala Harris talked about working at McDonald’s: truth or fiction?

Vice President and Democratic Party presidential candidate Kamala Harris revealed her past work at McDonald’s during her campaign. After the Democratic National Convention, Kamala cited her former fast food job as an example of her support for working-class families. However, Republican candidate Donald Trump questioned California-born Kamala’s work. Did Kamala really work at McDonald’s in the past?
During an MSNBC interview in September 2024, Kamala explained why she disclosed her previous fast food job while running for the White House.
«One reason I talk about working at McDonald’s is because there are people working at McDonald’s in our country trying to support their families», - she noted. «I worked there as a student».
Kamala claims she worked at the famous American restaurant chain to support herself while studying at Howard University in Washington in the 1980s.
«I think part of the difference between me and my opponent lies in our vision for the needs of the American people and our responsibility towards those needs», - added the former prosecutor, addressing Donald. «Gone are the days when everyone thought they could truly live the American dream. So part of my economic vision is to address some of the everyday problems people face and solve them with common sense, such as affordable housing».
Currently, there is no publicly available information about Kamala’s past work at McDonald’s, and the restaurant has not publicly responded to questions about her employment.
During his campaign, Donald appeared at a McDonald’s in Fisterville, Pennsylvania, in October 2024. As seen in several social media videos, he was handing out french fries at the drive-thru. However, the customers who received orders were reportedly pre-selected, according to multiple sources.
Additionally, a photo of what appeared to be a McDonald’s flyer visited by Donald became popular on social media. It showed that the franchise was closed for several hours for «a visit by request of former President Donald Trump and his campaign».
«Although we are not a political organization, we proudly open our doors to all, and as a local business, this visit provides a unique opportunity to shed light on the positive impact of small business here in Fisterville», - the letter stated.
Signed by operator Derek Giacomantonio and his «team from McDonald’s in Fisterville», - the flyer also noted: «We equally feel honored to share the significance experienced by one in eight Americans: that working at McDonald’s is not just a job. It is a path to developing important skills and meaningful career opportunities».
During his campaign, Donald doubted that Kamala had ever worked at McDonald’s. On several occasions, including the visit to Fisterville, the Republican candidate claimed that Kamala was lying about her past job
