Kamala Harris moved on from «debates about debates» with Donald Trump, reaching an agreement with the former president for a second debate, which she has now accepted.

The 59-year-old vice presidential campaigner Harris revealed that after the first planned presidential debate on September 10, a second debate will take place in October. Additionally, the campaign announced that at the moment there will only be one debate between Democrat Tim Walz and Republican J.D. Vance.

Michael Tyler, the campaign’s public relations director, stated: «Donald Trump’s campaign has accepted our proposal for three debates — two presidential and one vice presidential. Assuming Trump does show up on September 10 to debate with Vice President Harris, Governor Walz will face off against J.D. Vance on October 1, and Americans will once again see the vice president and Trump on the debate stage in October».

The 78-year-old Trump had previously agreed to debates with Harris on September 4 on FOX and September 25 on NBC, as well as on ABC. At that time, he remarked: «The other side has to agree to the terms. They may agree or they may not. I don’t know if they will agree. [Harris] hasn’t given an interview… I look forward to the debates because I think we need to clarify the situation».

This came after the Democratic presidential candidate called on Trump to reconsider his position on debates, saying at a rally: «If you have something to say, say it to my face». Now, with the debates scheduled, and despite not aligning with the dates he initially proposed, Harris has agreed to meet with Trump again in approximately two months.

In a statement released by Tyler, he added: «Voters deserve to see the candidates for the highest office in the country sharing their competing visions of our future. The more they play games, the more Trump and Vance show their lack of confidence and seriousness before the American people. These games end now».

Both parties will face off in the presidential elections in November, aiming to occupy the Oval Office after Joe Biden’s term ends in January 2025
