Vice President Kamala Harris has become the presumed Democratic candidate for president in the 2024 election. Harris secured the support of a sufficient number of delegates on Monday, July 22, according to The Associated Press. The Vice President needed to secure the support of 1,976 delegates, and already 2,668 have pledged their support. Only 54 delegates have not yet made a decision.
Delegates are set to vote between August 1 and 7. The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to take place between August 19 and 22, when Harris will officially become the party’s candidate for the 2024 presidential election. After it was announced that Harris had secured the support of delegates, she released a statement thanking everyone for their support. «When I announced my campaign for president, I said I intended to earn this nomination», - she said, according to The New York Times. «Today, I am proud to have secured the broad support needed to become our party’s candidate».
