Kamala Harris gave her first interview to Fox News: details and statements

Kamala Harris conducted her first — and possibly last — formal interview with Fox News.
On Wednesday, October 16, the vice president spoke with the network’s chief political anchor, Bret Baier, and the conversation quickly became tense. As expected, the tension manifested in frequent interruptions by Baier and attempts to talk over Harris.
For the Democratic presidential candidate, appearing on the conservative network was a way to engage in the fight. Harris became the first Democratic presidential candidate in eight years to give an interview on Fox News, following Hillary Clinton, who spoke with Chris Wallace. However, Harris is trying to counter Republican candidate Donald Trump, who previously refused an interview on CBS News «60 Minutes» and the second presidential debate. In recent days, she has also participated in several high-profile national media interviews, including appearances on ABC’s «The View» and Howard Stern’s show.
Here are the key moments of the nearly 30-minute interview.
Baier seemed intent on derailing Harris' speech — often repeating Trump’s words. And it took him less than 20 seconds to interrupt her for the first time.
«Please, let me finish», - Harris said during a discussion on immigration. «I am answering your question, and I would like to finish».
As the interview progressed, Baier eventually noted during the constant cross-talk: «We are interrupting each other». Overall, he interrupted Harris at least 38 times in 27 minutes, although at one point he apologized.
Baier’s questions mainly focused on immigration and border security, exploring how President Joe Biden and Harris were addressing these issues during their administration. However, Harris took the opportunity to make her clearest attempt to distinguish herself from Biden.
«My presidency will not be a continuation of President Biden’s presidency. Like every new president, I will bring my life experience, professional experience, and fresh ideas», - Harris said. «I represent a new generation of leadership».
Harris went on the openly pro-Trump network with a mission to attract moderate Republicans, previously appearing alongside more than 100 Republicans, including former Trump administration officials, who endorsed her.
She used every opportunity to emphasize these endorsements and made sure to mention Trump’s recent remarks about Democrats as «enemies within». He also suggested that he may need to use the military to fight this «enemy».
After Harris noted that former Trump administration officials claim that Trump is unfit for office, Baier seemed determined to get a soundbite from her. He asked if potential voters are wrong if the «unfit» Trump is leading in some critical states.
«Why, if he is so bad, does half the country support this person who could become the 47th president of the United States?» he insisted, to which Harris replied that elections should never be easy. Baier then interjected, «So are they wrong, those 50%? Are they stupid?»
When asked who regularly humiliates Americans, Baier demanded to show a clip from an earlier interview of Trump with Harris Faulkner on Fox News, in which Trump called Democrats «enemies within». However, the wrong clip was shown — in which Trump claimed he threatened no one.
Harris replied, «Bret, I’m sorry, but this clip does not match what he was saying about enemies within, which he repeated when talking about the American people. That’s not what you just showed».
«I'm telling you, that was a question we asked him», - Baier retorted after being caught in the mistake.
