Vice President Kamala Harris' election campaign began with a new ad featuring Beyoncé's song «Freedom». Just a few days after the 59-year-old presumed Democratic candidate embarked on an election tour, she released a new promo video highlighting her main principles: women’s reproductive rights, gun violence, accessible healthcare, and more.
«In these elections, each of us has a question: in what kind of country do we want to live?» Kamala asks in the ad, before showing a moment from Donald Trump’s election campaign. «There are people who believe that we should be a country of chaos, fear, and hatred. But us? We choose something else: freedom».
The ad then shows what Harris intends to focus on. «Freedom is not just surviving, but thriving», - she continues. «Freedom is being protected from gun violence. Freedom is making decisions about our own bodies. We choose a future where no child lives in poverty; where we can all afford healthcare; where no one is above the law».
«We believe in America’s promise, and we are ready to fight for it», - adds the Vice President, before concluding: «Because when we fight, we win».
Within just 24 hours of starting her campaign, Harris raised over $ 80 million in donations. Several Democrats and celebrities have supported the former prosecutor, including President Joe Biden, who declined to participate in the presidential race this week.
«My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and focus all my efforts on fulfilling my duties as president until the end of my term», - wrote 81-year-old Biden on his Twitter page on July 21. «My first decision as the party’s candidate in 2020 was to choose Kamala Harris as my vice president. And it was the best decision I made. Today, I want to express my full support and approval of Kamala as our party’s candidate this year».
On Wednesday, July 24, Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office in a televised speech. Recently recovered from COVID, the president told Americans: «I respect this office, but I love this country more», - adding that «the best way forward is to pass the baton to a new generation».
«It has been the privilege of my life to serve this nation for 50 years», - said the longtime politician, who served as a county council member, senator, vice president, and now president. «The idea of America is in your hands. Just keep the faith and remember who we are. There is nothing beyond our reach if we do it together»
