Tom Daley showed fans the beds where Olympic athletes will sleep at the Paris Games in a TikTok video posted on Monday, July 22. There have long been rumors about the beds provided to athletes in the Olympic Village each year, so many fans wanted to see how they were set up. As various teams arrived for the games, several of them showed off their living quarters.
The 30-year-old British swimmer showed close-up shots of the cardboard bed frame, tapping on it to show its structure. He also gave a brief glimpse of his surroundings, including cords and storage under the bed. «For those interested in the cardboard beds in the village, I’ll show you what they look like», - he said.
Throughout the video, Tom maneuvered around his bed and showed the blue and pink blanket of the Paris Olympic Games provided to all athletes. «This is the cardboard. As you can see, it looks like a box. Then you have the mattress, and then these cardboard boxes here: like this, with a mattress on top and a mattress topper. Then we have our own little Paris '24 blanket», - he said.
At the end of the clip, Tom jumped on the bed to show that it was sturdy. He also seemed to joke about rumors that the beds in the Olympic Village are «anti-sex», - jumping into a missionary position and continuing to bounce a little. «As you can see, they’re pretty sturdy», - he said.
The beds for the Olympics are provided by the Japanese company Airweave, and for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (which actually took place in 2021), rumors started that the cardboard beds were set up to discourage athletes from having sex due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company’s CEO denied this rumor in an interview with E! News
