Karen Huger was officially sentenced to prison 11 months after being found guilty of driving under the influence (DUI), among other charges. The real housewife’s legal case captivated fans for many months. After being found guilty of DUI on December 19, 2024, many awaited her sentencing, which took place on February 26, 2025.

Find out below how much time Huger will spend in prison and what her status is in RHOP.

Dubbed the «Grand Dame» in the world of reality TV, Huger is best known for her role in The Real Housewives of Potomac, which takes place in Maryland. She has appeared in eight out of nine seasons of RHOP so far.

Establishing herself as a fan favorite on Bravo, Huger received a spin-off called Karen’s Grand Dame Reunion in 2022.

In March 2024, Huger crashed her white Maserati in the Potomac area, but was not injured. However, she did hit several road signs. A video from a police officer’s camera at the scene of the accident became popular on social media. When taken to the police station, Huger refused to take an alcohol test. In a subsequent video with the police, Huger told officers that she was «very rich» and would «stay in jail for a year or two», - according to The Baltimore Banner.

Huger was then found guilty of DUI, reckless driving, failure to control speed to avoid a collision, and failure to notify a change of address, as noted by the Montgomery County prosecutor’s office. The jury rejected the charge of gross traffic violations.

In early 2025, the Bravo star completed a 28-day rehabilitation program in Florida.

Huger’s sentence was handed down on February 26, 2025, before Maryland District Court Judge Terrence J. McGann.

Yes, Huger was sentenced to two years in prison, with a one-year suspension, according to The Baltimore Banner. This means she will only spend one year in prison. She was also ordered to pay a $ 2,900 fine, and is prohibited from driving for a year after her release from prison.

According to The Baltimore Banner, Huger has 30 days to appeal the sentence. She addressed Judge McGann during the sentencing to acknowledge her mistakes.

«I better understand the harsh clarity of the fact that when you’re behind the wheel, you’re not just driving for yourself», - Huger said, according to the publication. «My responsibility is to ensure the safety of members of my community. … The video cameras definitely prove they were right and I was wrong. I should have handled this situation differently».

It is unclear whether Huger plans to return to RHOP after completing her prison sentence. Earlier, her manager Ryan Tresdale released a statement to Daily Dish, saying, «Karen made an important decision to enter a private recovery program, so she was unable to attend the reunion filming today. She was fully supported in this choice. We support Karen as she embarks on this meaningful journey and are proud of her for taking such a significant step in her personal development».
