Karen Reed: news about her case and retrial for the murder of a police Karen Reed: news about her case and retrial for the murder of a police
Karen Reed and her case have been a major headline in recent years. The Massachusetts resident is back in court because her first trial in 2024 ended without a unanimous jury decision. She was charged with the murder of her late boyfriend John O’Keefe, who was also a Boston police officer. As her retrial continues in 2025, find out all the updates and learn more about her case below.

Reed is a 44-year-old resident of Mansfield, Massachusetts, who worked as a financial analyst. She was dating John O’Keefe until his death in January 2022.

Reed is facing trial because she was charged with the murder of her boyfriend, O’Keefe, in January 2022, using her SUV after a night of alcohol consumption. She pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of the accident with personal injury and death.

The prosecution in this case alleges that Reed ran over O’Keefe with her car while allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Reed’s defense attorneys claim that she did not kill O’Keefe, but instead he was killed during a fight in the police officer’s house, and then his body was taken outside.

Furthermore, Reed claims to be a victim of cover-up involving law enforcement members.

Reed was in court from April 2024 to July 2024 before the case ended in a mistrial. The jury could not reach a unanimous decision, and she was rescheduled for a new trial, which began a year later in April 2025.

O’Keefe was a Boston police officer who was in a relationship with Reed. He was found dead in January 2022 in the snow behind the house of former police officer Brian Albert.

Reed’s fate is still unclear as her retrial has just begun in April 2025. If she is found guilty of the charge of vehicular homicide during her 2025 trial, Reed could be sentenced to life in prison, according to various sources.
