Karine Jean-Pierre: news about the first black press secretary of the White House
4 june 2025 в 21:13
Karen Jean-Pierre served as the press secretary in the White House of former President Joe Biden, replacing Jen Psaki. Five months after the start of Donald Trump’s presidency, Karen announced on Instagram that she was leaving the Democratic Party and officially becoming independent.
«And what I mean — in the era of disinformation, regressive social policies, what we are seeing now, what I have decided to do, and I have really thought about it for a long time and seriously — is to follow my own compass», - Jean-Pierre said in June 2025. «And that’s what I did, and that’s what this book does. And here is the truth, and here is how I will present it to you: I think we need to stop thinking within the confines and think beyond them, and not be so partisan».
Below, Hollywood Life has gathered five facts about Karen.
Born in Fort-de-France, Martinique, on August 13, 1977, Karen grew up in Queens, New York. She graduated from the New York Institute of Technology, and then earned a master’s degree in public administration from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.
Psaki described Karen as an «outstanding woman». She added, «Representation matters, and she will give a voice to many, but also make many dream of what is truly possible. I can’t wait to see her shine, bringing her own style, sparkle, and grace to the pedestal».
Karen thanked Psaki for her support. «She has been a wonderful colleague, friend, mentor for the past year and a half, and I don’t think I would be here without many people, including her, and she is just a wonderful, amazing person».
Biden only had glowing praise for Karen when he announced that she would take on the role of press secretary. «Karen not only brings the experience, talent, and honesty needed for this difficult job, but will also continue to lead in communicating about the work of the Biden-Harris administration on behalf of the American people», - Biden said in a statement, adding that «Jen Psaki set the standard for restoring decency, respect, and dignity in the White House Briefing Room».
Before becoming the first black woman to hold the position of White House press secretary, Karen had already made history as the second black woman to conduct daily press briefings in May. She also became the first openly LGBTQ+ representative in this position. Karen previously lived in Washington with her former partner, CNN correspondent Suzanne Malveaux, and their daughter.
During an EXCLUSIVE interview with Hollywood Life, Karen explained that she immediately seized the opportunity to join Biden’s campaign in 2020 to fight for issues left unaddressed by the Trump administration, such as racism and environmental issues. «I felt it was my job as a mother to get involved in this. I thought about my six-year-old daughter and what kind of planet, world, or country we will leave her and her peers», - she explained, pointing out, «I am a black woman, I am a gay woman, and I am an immigrant. And Donald Trump — he is a man who hates everything that I am». To read the full interview, click here
