After announcing on the reunion of the 8th season of Summer House about plans to open a «cafe and bar that serves only non-alcoholic drinks», - Carl Radke officially made it happen with Soft Bar + Cafe.
However, fans quickly began to speculate and comment that he cunningly came up with the name of his new business considering a former fiancée. As soon as Radke introduced the bar on Instagram on Monday, fans began accusing him of mocking Lindsay Hubbard — his former fiancée, whom he asked to «be softer» towards him before their breakup last year.
«Asking Lindsay to be softer towards him and opening a bar named Soft. Honestly devilish», - one fan reacted on X.
Several fans expressed similar sentiments on TikTok, with one writing: «The idea of the bar is good, but he’s a fool for naming it Soft».
Another person added, «Soft was her trigger word 😳».
In his defense, the 39-year-old stated that the rumors are not true because his inspiration for the name came from his travels in Europe. In a statement to Page Six on Tuesday, the reality star said that in Europe he encountered several bars that referred to non-alcoholic drinks as «soft cocktails» or «soft».
«Although 'non-alcoholic drinks' is a term used in the USA, it has a different meaning, usually representing soda», - he said.
«I wanted to define a new — and much needed — category and space for 'non-alcoholic drinks' or 'soft' to be considered functional and quality non-alcoholic beverages for adults».
The Bravo star continued, «I shared this thought during a conversation with my co-founder when we were discussing raising the bar in the non-alcoholic beverage space, which ultimately led us to the name 'Soft Bar'».
Hubbard, who is now expecting her first child with boyfriend Ternar Kufe, had previously rejected Radke’s idea of a sober bar in the 8th season of Summer House.
«Sorry, but I have to decline this», - the 37-year-old said to her then-fiancé.
«Having worked in the hospitality industry my whole life, representing every lounge, bar, club, hotel, restaurant… I don’t want this for our future family».
In June, Radke confirmed that he was moving forward with his idea during the reunion of the 8th season. «It feels like my calling», - he explained. «It's finally looking at me, and I want to go after it»
