In 2025, American representative Kat Cammack became a heroine when she revealed that a nearly fatal ectopic pregnancy required emergency medical assistance. A member of the Republican Party, Cammack firmly holds conservative views on abortion. However, her health problems led to a delay in receiving medical care in Florida due to the ban on abortions at six weeks of pregnancy.

Below, you will learn all about Cammack’s political career and personal life.

Cammack was born in Denver, Colorado. She grew up on a cattle ranch in the area and reportedly studied international relations at the Metropolitan State University of Denver. She then pursued a master’s degree at the Naval War College, where she reportedly studied national defense and strategic studies.

Originally from Colorado, Cammack is married to her husband, firefighter Matt Harrison. In mid-2025, Cammack became pregnant and is expecting her first child.

Cammack shared her experience with ectopic pregnancy in an interview with the Wall Street Journal in June 2025. It turned out that in May 2024, Cammack visited the emergency room of a hospital in Florida, where doctors found that the embryo of her child could not survive, and her life was in danger if action was not taken. However, doctors in the state were unsure at the time how to proceed in this situation due to restrictive abortion laws in Florida.

Refusing surgery, the hospital medical staff eventually decided to give Cammack a methotrexate injection to terminate the pregnancy. However, doctors at the unnamed hospital were concerned about how to handle the situation with emergency procedures during pregnancy due to a lack of understanding of the legislation. But the Florida Department of Health eventually issued recommendations for «dispelling misinformation» about permissible abortions if the life and/or health of the mother are at risk.

«I will support any woman — Republican or Democrat — and will fight for them to receive help in situations where they face miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy», - Cammack told the magazine, adding: «There will be comments like: 'Thank God we have abortion services,' even though what I went through was not an abortion».

An ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the uterus, usually in the fallopian tube, making pregnancy impossible or unlikely to survive
