Kathy Griffin provided an update on her health after vocal cord surgery through an Instagram post on Wednesday, June 12. «The vocal cord surgery went well. As you can see, there are some scars and swelling. It will be worth it if I get back part of my voice», - the 63-year-old actress captioned the post, showing her scar.

The day before the surgery, she shared a video on Instagram documenting her last day before she wouldn’t be able to speak for two weeks. «I'm getting an implant in my left vocal cord, which was left permanently paralyzed during my lung cancer surgery, when half of my left lung was removed… I also have an aperture, which is a gap above my vocal cords, so sometimes when I perform a comedy routine, my voice gets higher… So anyway, I never get nervous before surgery, and I’ve had quite a few. But I’m a little nervous about this one, because it’s my voice, and I’ve already been through it once with a voice issue», - Griffin said in the video.

She added, «So wish me luck, and I won’t be able to speak at all for two weeks, which is driving me crazy. So I’ll be watching a lot of TikTok and doing nothing».

The successful surgery came after the comedian was diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2021. «I need to tell you something. I have cancer. I’m going in for surgery to have half of my left lung removed. Yes, I have lung cancer, even though I’ve never smoked! The doctors are very optimistic, as it’s stage one and limited to my left lung. Hopefully, there will be no need for chemotherapy or radiation therapy afterwards, and I should have normal breathing function. I should be up and running as usual in a month or less», - the actress wrote in a statement published on her social media.

The procedure she underwent led to the paralysis of her left vocal cord. «The craziest and almost reasonable fact is that when I had cancer, I had no symptoms, then I had surgery where half of my left lung was removed. And now it’s like I sound and feel like I have cancer… The most annoying thing is that I really sound like I’m in pain, but I’m not», - Kathy Griffin told People magazine
