Kai Trump shared an update following an unexpected wrist surgery she underwent during her first college golf tournament. On her Instagram on October 14, she wrote that despite hopes of avoiding surgery, after discussions with family, coaches, and medical staff, she made the decision that surgery was necessary for her long-term health and future in her beloved sport.
Kai, the granddaughter of former President Donald Trump, posted a photo from her hospital room after the surgery. She noted that recovery will take time, but she feels happy surrounded by supportive people. «Every challenge is an opportunity for growth», - she added.
The surgery took place at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Kai expressed gratitude to Dr. Carlson and the HSS team for their care, as well as to her teammates, coaches, and family for their support. She emphasized that the main focus now is healing and trusting the process, and she expressed hope to return to the team stronger and more grateful.
Kai, a freshman at the University of Miami, was injured when she «fell to the ground near the first tee» during the Golfweek Fall Challenge tournament in early September. She finished the tournament in 102nd place out of 120 participants. Previously, she had hoped to avoid surgery with stem cell injections administered by pain specialist Dr. Jeffrey Wiggers. It is unclear how long Kai will need for recovery, as the University of Miami’s golf calendar continues until mid-May.
