Keith Urban expressed admiration for Miley Cyrus: «She sounds like an ashtray!»

Keith Urban is a big fan of Miley Cyrus. The 56-year-old country music singer paid a compliment to the Grammy-winning 31-year-old Miley during a new interview on the podcast «Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie» on Wednesday, September 4. But his comment caused confusion among fans.
«I love Miley. I’ve always loved Miley», - said the singer of «You'll Think of Me», - adding, «I love her voice, man, that voice. She sounds like an ashtray — and I mean that as a compliment. She sounds like a carpet in RSL [Returned and Services League of Australia]!»
Keith then clarified, saying, «I literally mean that as a compliment».
Originally from Australia, he has been praising the work of the «Flowers» hitmaker for many years. During tours, he has performed her Grammy-winning song. And over a decade ago, Keith and Miley performed together on Good Morning America alongside Ryan Seacrest.
This is not the first time Keith has praised his fellow musicians and singers. During a previous interview with PEOPLE, the «Blue Ain’t Your Color» artist praised Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande for their talent.

«I've always liked Ariana anyway», - he said. «She doesn’t sound like anyone else. It’s like Taylor. I like singers where you immediately recognize the voice, and there are many other singers who sound like them, but they don’t sound like anyone else».

That month, Keith shared a video on Instagram of himself singing Ari’s hit song. He even tagged Nickelodeon’s album in his post, writing, «This song — audio heroin @arianagrande».
