Kel Mitchell recalls his time working with Dan Schneider. During a conversation with his Nickelodeon colleague Keke Palmer on Tuesday, June 11, in an episode of her podcast «Keke, It’s Keke Palmer», - the 45-year-old actor remembered an alleged incident with Dan on the set of All That, where the former TeenNick producer, according to him, yelled at Kel in a closet.
«I remember Dan and I getting into it on set», - Kel said. «He said, 'Let's go in this room, in this closet.' He closed the door and started yelling, saying all kinds of crazy things».
Kel also recalled how the «show's atmosphere started to change a little» after co-creator Brian Robbins «started shooting 'Varsity Blues' and all these different movies, and the producing team started to grow, so they left».
«And they left us with the head writer, Dan Schneider. And he was writing, and he and I kind of bumped heads a little bit», - the comedian continued, pointing out that he walked away from the tense argument with Dan. «Being an adult at that time, I had a decision, you know? I just thought, okay, either we’re going to fight, or I’m going to leave. And that’s what I did. I left the situation».
Kel opened up about working with Dan shortly after several former Nickelodeon stars shared their impressions. Ariana Grande and Victoria Justice from Victorious are among the recent names who have shared their reactions to the allegations made in the Investigation Discovery documentary series «Quiet on Set».
In the documentary series, which was released in March, several former cast members and crew members who worked on several well-known Nickelodeon shows accused Dan of creating a toxic work environment.
In response to the documentary series, Nickelodeon provided a statement to Hollywood Life, stating: «While we cannot confirm or deny the allegations of behavior on productions from decades ago, Nickelodeon typically investigates all official complaints as part of our commitment to creating a safe and professional work environment, free from harassment or other forms of inappropriate behavior. Our highest priority is the well-being and best interests not only of our employees, actors, and crew, but of all children, and for many years we have taken numerous safety measures to ensure compliance with our own high standards and the expectations of our audience».
For his part, Dan acknowledged that he needs to «apologize very seriously» to some people. In May, he filed a lawsuit against the creators of Quiet on Set for defamation.
