Kelly Hyland is ready to talk about her health. The Dance Moms star revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer after finding a lump in her breast.
«I went from clean results to a malignant tumor in eight months», - Kelly, 53, shared in an interview published on Wednesday, May 29. «I was shocked that it grew so quickly, and scared of the battle I knew I had to face».
Kelly found the lump in her breast at the end of March, almost eight months after a routine mammogram. Although her last appointment had clean results, the reality star’s self-examination pushed her to schedule another mammogram. After additional tests, Kelly’s official diagnosis was stage 1 invasive carcinoma, grade 3, meaning her breast cancer is progressing rapidly.
«All my former colleagues know what’s happening», - Kelly shared, who hosts the podcast «Dear Dance Moms…». «They have been extremely supportive and willing to work around my treatment schedule and how I’m feeling. I’m very lucky to have such wonderful friends and a flexible job that allows me to maintain some normalcy in all of this».
Sharing her diagnosis on Instagram, Kelly immediately received support from her Dance Moms family, including Kalani Hilliker and Maddie Ziegler. «I love you and the kids. I will always be here for you», - Christie Lukasiak wrote in the comments. Jill Vertes added, «You are so strong, Kelly! Keep going, we are all here for you!»
Currently on her second of six initial chemotherapy treatments, Kelly told E! that she has a long list of appointments and steps ahead of her. Doctors have said that after completing the initial chemotherapy treatments, surgery and radiation therapy are likely to follow. Fortunately, Kelly has the help and support of friends and family, including her 26-year-old daughter Brooke Hyland, 25-year-old son Josh Hyland, and 23-year-old daughter Paige Hyland.
«The hardest part for me is accepting help from the people around me», - she said. «I am a very independent person, and as a mom, I am used to taking care of people, not being the one taken care of».
If you ask Kelly’s children, they are confident that their mom will soon feel better. «I really hope this is only stage one», - Josh told E! «I feel like she caught it quickly. I know my mom is strong enough to overcome this»
