Ken Urquhart, the former fiancé of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, was found dead on his 34th birthday. According to sources, Urquhart had been in a state of depression and had previously threatened to commit suicide.
In a recording of a call to emergency services, Gypsy’s sister-in-law, Anita Blanchard, informed the dispatcher that Ken had not shown up for work and was in a «dark place». She also noted that Ken had «threatened to commit suicide» and «had a weapon». Anita added that he had consumed alcohol the night before. The police report stated that she and her husband Dylan had spent the evening with Ken at church the day before his death, and he had expressed his depressive feelings.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found Urquhart dead. The report indicated that he was lying on his back in bed and was cold to the touch. A syringe and a gun were found on the nightstand next to him, along with a paper towel stained with blood. In the bathroom, police discovered drug paraphernalia and a brown powdery substance.
An autopsy has already been conducted; however, the Lafourche Parish coroner’s office reported that there is currently no definitive cause of death, and the case remains open pending the completion of toxicology testing. Gypsy, in shock, told People magazine that she believes Ken died from a drug overdose but did not specify whether it was intentional. She described him as a wonderful father and a person who was deeply loved.
