Actors almost always need a stunt double, and Candace Cameron Bure proved this by recalling an almost fatal incident that occurred on the set of the series «Full House». The 48-year-old actress sat down with former colleagues Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber for her podcast «How Rude, Tanneritos!» and explained how a stunt on a wire went horribly wrong.
Pointing out that her character, D.J. Tanner, wanted to complete the «American Ninja Warrior» course in the living room, Candace described how she «almost died».
«I completed the course, and at the end I descended on a wire diagonally across the living room, and then landed on a platform», - Candace said in the episode of the podcast from April 18. «But during the rehearsal, the structure was incorrectly set up, and there was no safe stop at the end».
The original cast member of «Full House» added: «When I landed after descending on the wire and stopped, all the mechanics — all the metal and very heavy — slid off the track and ended up right next to my head within an inch. … If I had even slightly shifted my weight, it probably would have broken my neck and fallen right on my head».
As a result, according to Candace, «the stunt double was fired. And [director] Mark [Cendrowski] said, 'We're not going to do this stunt. Redo the whole scene, because we’re not doing this stunt anymore'».
Candace’s co-star, Scott Weinger, who played D.J.'s longtime love, witnessed the horrifying moment and «couldn't even speak a word, because it happened in one second», - she explained.
Despite how «traumatic» the stunt incident was for her, Candace emphasized how much she enjoyed working on the spin-off series.
«Full House» ended in 2020 after five seasons. As the show was successful, fans expressed interest in another spin-off. However, original cast member Bob Saget passed away in 2022, leaving the fate of the show unknown.
Last year, 42-year-old Jodie exclusively told Hollywood Life that another episode of «Full House» is not ruled out, but without Bob, another project likely wouldn’t be «the same».
«I will always leave that door open [to work on another show], but I will say that right now, without Bob — it was on all of our minds, like, will it ever be the same without Danny Tanner?» Jodie told Hollywood Life in December 2023. «So, we’ll see. But I will never say that I won’t play Stephanie [again]»
