Keri Russell explains why she doesn’t plan to marry Matthew Rhys
Keri Russell talked about why she and her partner Matthew Rhys do not plan to get married, despite being together for nearly 13 years. In an episode of the podcast «Dear Chelsea», - which aired on October 8, Russell noted that they have children, and that is sufficient grounds for her long-term commitment. She added that marriage feels outdated to her.

Russell and Rhys began dating in late 2013 while filming the series «The Americans». They have a son named Sam, who was born in May 2016. Russell also has two children from her previous marriage to Shane Deary—a son named River and a daughter named Willa. Russell emphasized that she has already gone through the wedding planning process with Deary and does not feel the need to repeat it.

During the interview, Russell also commented on the rumors about why Rhys did not thank her while accepting the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2026 Emmys. According to her, Rhys was «nervous» about his speech, and she told him that she did not expect him to thank her. Russell noted that they both agree that they are not obligated to thank each other at public events.

Rhys, for his part, admitted that he did not prepare a speech before the ceremony, which contributed to his anxiety. He became the first actor to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in three major categories—drama, comedy, and limited series. Russell was also nominated for an Emmy for her role in the series «The Diplomat», - but did not win the award.
