Katie Ledecky has just crossed a new threshold, setting a new record. The 27-year-old swimmer is now the most decorated American woman in Olympic history after winning silver in the women’s 4×200-meter freestyle relay on Thursday, August 1. The day before, she took gold in the women’s 1500-meter freestyle, winning by a large margin over all other swimmers.

Originally from Bethesda, Katie also set a record for the fastest women’s 1500-meter freestyle swim. Her victorious moment garnered huge attention on social media, with countless fans calling her an inspiration in sports.

Katie made her Olympic debut at just 15 years old at the 2012 London Olympics. She continued to win gold in the women’s 800-meter freestyle, shocking viewers worldwide with her talent and impressive skills. Throughout her career, she has returned to the Olympic stage in Rio, Tokyo, and now in Paris.

Earlier, Katie openly shared the secret of her success during an appearance on the TODAY show in June. During the interview, she explained why she chose to train at the University of Florida.

«One of the main reasons I came to Florida was to train with the best male distance swimmers in the world», - she said. «I know that I train and compete very well when I have the opportunity to compete with guys. And not just anyone, but the best. It was a really great environment for me. I try to make them better, as they make me better».

Although she worked hard and trained a lot, Katie still «never thought I would even make it to one Olympics when I first started swimming, let alone have the chance to go to a fourth [Games]».

«So it’s amazing for me», - added the athlete. «But at the same time, I don’t focus on historical achievements or the number of medals. I am very focused on each individual race, and more on times than places… I really know what to expect when I go to a big national or international meet. I have a level of comfort that I have now, and that, I think, translates to my races».

As for advice for those who want to achieve their dreams, Katie advised to «set the bar high and not be afraid to set goals that initially seem unrealistic or impossible». In this way, anyone can «see results and get closer to those goals», - she concluded
