Kevin Costner recalls his divorce from his ex-wife Christine Baumgartner. During his appearance on CBS Mornings on Thursday, June 27, the 69-year-old actor from the series «Yellowstone» opened up about his separation, calling it a «crushing moment».
«It's strong and painful», - he admitted, adding that as a father, he had «no choice» but to move forward for the sake of his children. Kevin and Christina, 50, are raising children together — Cayden, Hayes, and Grace. In addition, the actor has adult children — Annie, Lily, and Joe — from his ex-wife Cindy Silva, as well as a son Liam from his ex-wife Bridget Rooney.
«So I can’t wilt like a daisy», - Kevin added, explaining why he wants to remain strong for his children. «I need to move forward, I have to continue to be myself and watch who they are».
The actor from «Field of Dreams» and the handbag designer separated in the middle of 2023 and were involved in a messy divorce for many months. The former spouses were in a legal battle over finances. Initially, Christina requested nearly $ 250,000 a month in child support from Kevin, but the court ruled that he would be required to pay over $ 63,000 a month, which was less than half of what she wanted.
In the summer of 2023, they argued about alimony payments and their prenuptial agreement. They even quarreled over who would keep household items, including silverware. Christina also had to leave the estate they shared with Kevin, and he reportedly lowered her credit limit.
By September 2023, they reached a divorce agreement and finalized it earlier this year in February.
Despite the tough legal battle, Kevin recently called Christina a «good partner [and] a good mother» in an interview with PEOPLE.
«We just couldn’t go the distance», - he said about his past marriage in an interview published on June 19. «All I can say is that I had an amazing life. I got bumps, but I had an amazing life, and I’m grateful for it»
