Kevin Mannix killed his wife and daughter, then took his own life

According to California Post, former police sergeant Kevin Mannix killed his wife Ann Mannix and their adult daughter Katie in a murder-suicide that took place on October 11 at their home in Marin County, California. Before the tragedy, a family friend claims the couple was experiencing marital problems.
The Mannix’s older daughter, who was in the house during the incident, hid in a bedroom and called emergency services around 5:00 PM after hearing gunshots. She reported that her father was drinking red wine. Upon the police’s arrival at the scene, law enforcement discovered the bodies of Kevin, Ann, and Katie.
A family friend who had known Ann for over 60 years stated that she had previously shared her struggles in her marriage with Kevin. Despite the issues, the friend said the couple was not in a state of separation at the time of their deaths. The friend also noted that Ann was a «wonderful mother» and had dreamed of becoming a grandmother.
Retired police captain Alex O’Brien, who worked with the Mannixes, described Kevin as a quiet and modest person who, in her opinion, could not have committed such a crime. She noted that Ann was more energetic and confident than her husband and had achieved high positions in the San Francisco police department.
It is currently unclear whether authorities believed Kevin had a motive for committing the murders.
