Kim Kardashian visited the White House as part of her criminal justice reform efforts. The 43-year-old media personality joined Vice President Kamala Harris at a roundtable on Thursday, April 25, where they met with several people who had been pardoned for non-violent drug offenses.
«Can't wait to share all about the second chance event today at the White House», - Kim wrote on a selfie taken on the White House lawn via her Instagram Stories. «Thank you, Madam Vice President».
At the event, 59-year-old Kamala was photographed leading the roundtable, where she reportedly said, «I believe in the power of redemption. Isn’t it a sign of a civil society that we give people the opportunity to come back and provide them with the support and resources they need to do so?»
According to various sources, the Vice President also thanked the star of «American Horror Story: Coven» for her advocacy for changes in the American prison system.
«I want to thank Kim for your advocacy and for using your platform in a way that really elevates the importance of the conversation about genuine second chances», - Kamala said.
Kim responded, «I'm just here to help and spread information», - before telling the pardoned participants at the meeting that she was «so happy to be here and hear your stories».
Earlier this week, Kardashian appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s show to discuss her SKIMS brand, the second season of her appearance on AHS, and her current relationship with Donald Trump.
«I think he doesn’t like me very much», - Kim told host Jimmy Kimmel. «But I don’t care. I think he’s done amazing things in terms of prison reform and released a lot of people and signed an amazing law, the First Step Act. And that’s what I’m focused on».
Last year, Donald called Kim an «overrated celebrity» in a social media post, despite the two appearing to have a strong working relationship in the past. Kim, who maintains a neutral political stance in the public eye, met with the former «Apprentice» host in 2018 to discuss steps for prison reform. The First Step Act is considered one of the few bipartisan actions taken during his presidency
