Kimberly Guilfoyle, the former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr. and the current U.S. ambassador to Greece, is under investigation following allegations that she allegedly urged a supporter of her former fiancé, President Donald Trump, to pay off her credit card debt of $ 100,000.
According to NBC News on October 10, citing two sources familiar with the situation, the Office of the Inspector General of the State Department is investigating Guilfoyle and her office after Eric Deters, a longtime supporter and significant financial donor to the president, accused the former Fox News host of allegedly offering a «quid pro quo». The Daily Mail first reported this news.
Deters stated in an interview with NBC News on October 8: «She was so desperate for that $ 100,000. It was quid pro quo. She said I could ask her for anything in the Trump world. There was no request too big». He also provided the news outlet with PDF documents of alleged text messages and Signal messages between him and Guilfoyle that support his claims. The Wall Street Journal first reported on the documents on October 7.
Deters claims that for several months, Guilfoyle allegedly offered to use her influence as the former fiancée of the president’s son to help him draw the Trump administration’s attention to his «personal tax and legal issues». According to the publication, while she was lobbying the head of the IRS «on his behalf», - she allegedly demanded that he pay her $ 100,000 to settle her credit card debt.
In one message, Guilfoyle allegedly wrote to Deters: «Dear, I need you to do this for me today». In another message, she allegedly indicated that it would be better to transfer the money directly to her American Express account, as «it won’t show up anywhere». According to Deters, he never sent her the requested funds.
Us reached out to the State Department, the White House, the U.S. embassy and consulate in Greece, as well as Guilfoyle’s legal representative for comments regarding the allegations and the investigation, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
Vice President JD Vance commented on the allegations of the alleged quid pro quo on October 9, stating that these are merely «allegations» from «one person’s story», - despite the alleged evidence of the correspondence between Guilfoyle and Deters. «Let's really look at what the facts are», - he said, adding that «we don’t judge people in the court of public opinion».
It is worth noting that in December 2025, it was reported that Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle had ended their relationship, having begun to divide their assets at the end of September. Trump Jr. is currently married to Bettina Anderson. Guilfoyle was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as ambassador to Greece on September 18, 2025.
