Collin Gosselin claims in his new memoir that his happiest childhood memories with mother Kate were «fabricated» for television. In an interview with Us Weekly, he stated that these moments only occurred in front of the cameras.
In the book «In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving My Childhood Reality», - Collin describes his life with seven siblings — twins Mady and Cara, as well as sextuplets Joel, Aaden, Hannah, Alexis, and Leah. He also mentions alleged physical and emotional abuse from his mother, which he claims intensified when he began to refuse to participate in the show «Jon & Kate Plus 8». Kate Gosselin has not commented on Collin’s allegations and has long denied any claims of abuse or neglect.
Collin recalls one moment when his mother, hugging him, said, «I just love when you’re happy and being yourself». According to him, this meant she loved it when he «performed for the cameras» and did not resist exploitation.
Kate and Jon Gosselin divorced in 2009 after ten years of marriage, with Kate receiving primary custody of their eight children. Collin was placed in a psychiatric hospital in Philadelphia at the age of 12 due to alleged behavioral issues. Ultimately, Jon gained custody of Collin and daughter Hannah, while the other siblings remained with Kate.
Collin also noted that he cannot remember what his siblings looked like or sounded like, expressing regret that he does not know about their interests and lives today. The book «In the Shadow of Eight» is now available for reading.
